The IPL 2026 retention window closed on November 15, 2025, with all 10 franchises confirming their retained players. A total of 173 players have been retained, including 49 overseas players. The IPL 2026 auction is scheduled for December 16 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.​

Key Highlights

Punjab Kings retained the most players with 21 retained, while Kolkata Knight Riders retained the fewest with just 12 players. Mumbai Indians spent the highest amount at ₹122.25 crore, while they have the lowest remaining purse of just ₹2.75 crore. In contrast, Kolkata Knight Riders has the highest remaining purse of ₹64.30 crore with only 12 players retained, giving them flexibility for the auction.​

A combined purse of ₹237.55 crore is available across all teams to fill a total of 77 remaining player slots. Notable players released include Glenn Maxwell, Faf Du Plessis, Andre Russell, David Miller, and Ravi Bishnoi, who will be available in the IPL 2026 mini-auction.​

Since IPL 2026 is a mini-auction, there was no strict limit on the number of retentions. Teams could retain as many players as their salary purse allowed.

The IPL 2026 Mini-Auction is scheduled to be held on December 16, 2025, in Abu Dhabi.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has the biggest purse remaining (approximately ₹64.3 Cr) after releasing several expensive players.

CSK retained core players like MS Dhoni, Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and acquired Sanju Samson via a major trade deal.

Significant releases include Venkatesh Iyer (KKR), Andre Russell (KKR), Matheesha Pathirana (CSK), Glenn Maxwell (PBKS), and Yuzvendra Chahal (RR).

The most notable trades include Sanju Samson (from RR to CSK), Ravindra Jadeja (from CSK to RR), and Sam Curran (from CSK to RR).

MI has retained Rohit Sharma. The team will be captained by Hardik Pandya, who was also retained.

RCB retained players like Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
